[/vcex_bullets][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Ruth Appleby, set up Appleby Solutions in 2014 after being involved in the conference industry for over 25 years in many different capacities including at a venue operational level, as Manager of Newcastle Convention Bureau for more than 17 years and as a PCO (Professional Conference Organiser). She has maintained status as an Accredited Meetings Manager (AMM) * since 1997. Ruth is supported by experienced casual staff who are engaged on an as needs basis.
Most of the PCO work that Ruth carried out was during her time at Newcastle Convention Bureau, when she managed mostly academic, medical, not for profit and government conferences for up to 1000 delegates. Since 2004, as well as managing the bid process to secure conference business to Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, Ruth has been mostly assisting and advising conference committees on many issues regarding their event including venue and supplier selection. She also was responsible for the management of many showcase events in Newcastle, Hunter Valley and around Australia focussed on promoting the area as a Conference destination. She also worked closely with The University of Newcastle, setting up a Conference Ambassador Programme which included running an annual training course, on site at the University for staff, on the management of conferences.
Ruth has won several industry awards for the conferences she managed including 2004 Meeting of the Year for the Urological Society of Australasia Annual Scientific Meeting – awarded by Meetings and Events Australia. She was also awarded the 2005 NSW Outstanding Industry Contribution award by Meetings and Events Australia* and in 2007 Outstanding Contribution to Regional Tourism award at the Hunter Regional Tourism Awards. Under her leadership, Newcastle Convention Bureau was awarded Regional Convention Bureau of the Year, 2008 at both a State and National level.
Ruth has now returned to private enterprise and offers contract and consultancy services within the Business Tourism (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) sector including Conference & Event Management.
